All Things Creative

City & Guilds Accredited online programmes in Pattern Cutting, Tailoring and Upholstery.

Learners will gain upholstery skills, techniques and processes applicable to this level of work. The syllabus includes: Outcome 1 – Design is a common unit for all qualifications at this level. It introduces you to the way in which design ideas develop so that you can take them forward into your chosen craft. Outcome 2 – Sampling, learners will produce samples of sewing and upholstery techniques such as seams, piping and applique. Outcome 3 - Deep Buttoned Item using modern techniques. This item can be a stool, ottoman box or a headboard covered using modern upholstery techniques and deep buttoning. The stool will have hand finished legs and the ottoman should be covered and padded inside and out. Outcome 4 - Drop In Seat A drop-in seat, traditionally stuffed, for a dining chair. A piece of artwork should be created and applied to the seat taken from the design work covered during the programme. As part of the programme you should be aware of current trends in the craft. You will also research the work of designer makers both contemporary and historical to develop your understanding of your specialism. This may be done through the internet, shop visits or if possible through museum or gallery exhibitions. There will be 20 online meetings during the year – these will be group meetings with demonstrations and discussions using the Zoom platform. There will also be one to one tutorials, where we can discuss your individual learning plan and progress. Tutors are always available to answer any questions you may have. All teaching materials will be shared with the learners. As each unit is completed you will submit photos and notes online and the tutor will assess your work. The course is graded as pass, merit and distinction. You will receive individual feedback on your results. We have a robust quality assurance process in place and assessments will be internally verified to ensure standardisation across specialism

Deirdre Robbins        Naomi Wagstaff

We are an online educational platform that helps creative learners to achieve success in their chosen specialism.

With many years of experience in teaching in Further Education, Naomi and Deirdre came together in 2014 to set up a successful private studio to help to fill the gap in craft skills training. Since then, we have provided tuition for learners at all levels across a range of specialisms. In response to the pandemic, we developed courses online to enable students to learn at their own pace and in their own environment.
Working in collaboration with Artybird Carnforth we offer City & Guilds Accredited Programmes in Upholstery, Pattern Cutting and Tailoring
